Event organiser: Northumbria University. Northumbria Construct's role: Participating organisation, sharing a joint stand with APM and CIOB.

Bringing Academia and Industry Closer Together

On 12 October 2026, Northumbria Construct participated in Northumbria University's Built Environment Careers Fair, sharing a stand with the Association for Project Management (APM) and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

The joint engagement marked an important milestone in Northumbria Construct's mission to bridge the gap between academia and the construction industry by helping students access professional networks, development opportunities and pathways into their chosen careers.

Throughout the event, students engaged with representatives to explore professional membership opportunities, including suitable membership grades, the benefits of joining professional institutions and the resources available to support their professional development.

Discussions also highlighted opportunities for networking, volunteering, continued professional learning and progression towards professional recognition.

Strengthening Professional Engagement

For Northumbria Construct, participating alongside two leading professional institutions provided an opportunity to demonstrate how collaboration between universities, student-led initiatives and professional bodies can help students navigate the construction industry's professional landscape.

The engagement reinforced Northumbria Construct's role as an intermediary, connecting students with established professional institutions and signposting opportunities that complement their academic development.

We extend our appreciation to Northumbria University for organising the Careers Fair and to the APM and CIOB for their collaboration and continued commitment to supporting emerging construction and project management professionals.
